As of Nov 1, 2026, self-driving bought on a used car stays with it in a private sale, but can't be moved to another car.

Policy as of Nov 1, 2026: Tesla's FSD transfer program ended Mar 31, 2026. New cars get FSD by subscription only. HW3 has no upgrade path to AI4. FSD (Supervised) today: AI4 runs v14.3.x; HW3 runs v14.3 Lite (close to AI4, a few features missing); HW2/2.5 need the HW3 computer for any FSD.
